Bach said, “Tom is such a gracious, kind-hearted gentleman. He loves God, Nancy, family, and all people with such a pure love. His joy and sweet spirit are so encouraging to others. He encourages without thinking to do so. My life has been enriched by Tom. Open Bible has been blessed by his leadership.” During Tom’s tenure, which began January 1, 2012, he helped launch the Toledo School of Ministry. He appointed Brian Ehlers and his successor, George Williams, to lead church planting efforts in partnership with Converge Ministries, resulting in numerous church plants and additional church branches. He coached several church planting pastors through the First Steps of Church Planting in Open Bible East, partnered with Natural Church Development to work with churches to create an environment of qualitative and quantitative growth, and helped initiate Built to Last Summits (conferences designed to build strong foundations in emerging leaders). He also focused on credentialing numerous young leaders who went on to become key pastors and board members in East Region, instituted a coaching climate in OBE, and sent dozens of ministry couples to Galatians 6:6 Marriage Training retreats to facilitate ministerial health. Tom’s beautiful wife, Nancy, has ministered closely at his side. Nancy and Tom taught Servant Church Consultations at local churches, concentrating on relational leadership and evangelism. Nancy has led Open Bible East’s Women’s Network focusing on women’s retreats and implementing the Treasured event for junior and senior high school girls. The Ruplis have team taught numerous district training events designed to facilitate church health and an outreach orientation. “Although traveling throughout the Eastern Region has afforded Nancy and me the opportunity to see this historic and beautiful country up close, our greatest joy resonates from the wonderful relationships forged with the dedicated and gifted ministers of Open Bible East,” Tom said. “You are heroes to us, we love you, and we thank God for the richest of opportunities to serve Jesus and you, our brothers and sisters in Christ!” Josh Grimes, pastor of Plainview Open Bible Church in Brookville (Dayton area), Ohio, will begin service as the new Open Bible East regional executive director July 1. The regional executive director responsibility is an appointed position by the president of Open Bible Churches in consultation with the regional board of directors, approved by the national board of directors, and ratified by Open Bible credentialed ministers who reside in East Region.
