Font Size » + | -Guests from our Open Bible family in Japan came to the United States this past January 2019. Sister Yaeko Yoshinaga, her son, Pastor Yutaka Yoshinaga, and his wife, Sakie, traveled to Oklahoma to visit the gravesite of Shirley Rounds, who passed away in August of 2018. Shirley and her husband, Phil, served as missionaries to Japan in the 1950s. Yaeko Yoshinaga received Christ as her Savior while working as a housekeeper for the Rounds. Her entire family received Christ as well. Ever since that time there has been a special bond between Sister Yoshinaga’s family and the Rounds family. In the Japanese culture it is customary to show respect and honor to family members who pass away. The Yoshinagas consider the Rounds family to be part of their family. After visiting the grave site in Oklahoma, the Yoshinagas visited the Open Bible national office; Global Missions Director Vince McCarty and his wife, Lois; former INSTE Directors Drs. Nick and Leona Venditti; and President Randall Bach and his wife, Barbara, for a time of fellowship. They also brought a generous offering for Global Missions from Open Bible Churches in Japan and from the Trinity Square Open Bible Church in Machida, pastored by Yutaka and Sakie Yoshinaga. The Bachs hosted the group at their home for an “all-American meal” of roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, scalloped corn, green bean casserole, chicken and noodles, and apple and cherry pie. Joining the group were former Global Missions Field Director Paul Canfield and his wife, Vivian. The Yoshinagas invited Randall and Barbara to come and visit Japan. Vince McCarty said, “It is very special to witness the bond of Christ that transcended language, culture, and customs and provided a special kinship that will last for eternity.” Fellowship around the table: (left to right) Randall Bach, Yutaka Yoshinaga, Sakie Yoshinaga, Yaeko Yoshinaga, Vivian and Paul Canfield, and Vince and Lois McCarty.
