I was sick to my stomach, having read an article exposing some of the material that is required reading in many schools.1 The excerpts the article exposed were so vile I didn’t even finish reading them, describing in detail incest, bestiality, and rape. Parents who complain about the material are bullied by educators, labeled “book banners,” and accused of “censorship.”

All of this hate, just because parents want to protect their children. And parents have reason to be concerned – and not just on moral grounds. One study found that participants who reported frequent contact with sexually explicit material (SEM) had more casual sex partners and began having sex at younger ages. SEM viewing frequency in women correlated with a lower age of first intercourse for women and a decrease in both sexual and relationship satisfaction among men.2

Satan would love to steal from us the joy of physical and relational intimacy. SEM and other pornography are tools he uses aggressively. Try to go online – or even drive down the street – without being accosted by images that portray women as nothing more than body parts.

Are you distraught by the moral depravity of our country? Have you been praying for revival? Did you know it is possible the Church itself is holding back that revival? And it has nothing to do with the manner of worship or the pastor’s preaching.

In his book Clean: A Proven Plan for Men Committed to Sexual Integrity, Dr. Douglas Weiss states that in some churches “half or more of their men are dead inside because their silent sins are keeping them from reaching their full destiny in Christ.” According to a 2014 survey commissioned by Proven Men Ministries, 64 percent of middle-aged Christian men (ages 31-49) view pornography at least monthly. No wonder we don’t see revival.

We have good news though. Christ came to give life and that abundantly. He can and wants to set people free. This issue is filled with methods He uses to do that.

2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Douglas adds, “If we win this war together, we might see a return to Christian sexual values in our culture. We might return to a day when sexual purity is the standard once again, and perversion is seen for the damaging entity it really is.”
