It was followed closely by numerous aftershocks, which ranged from magnitude 5.6 to magnitude 6.3. The epicenter of the quake is located near Mount Everest, nearly 50 miles northeast of Kathmandu. At last report, 76 people have been confirmed dead and nearly 2,000 people are injured. Avalanches have halted rescue attempts in some areas. The situation on the ground is compounded by the damage that occurred just over two weeks ago, when a magnitude-7.8 quake struck. Donate Now! More than 8,150 people have been confirmed dead and 17,860 people injured since the first earthquake occurred on April 25. Our DS team on the ground in Nepal has been contacted and their safety verified. Our team and volunteers were packing food for distribution when the earthquake occurred.
