More than enjoying an anniversary, the Holsapples and congregation are delighting in fresh growth and anticipation about all God is doing. They reach out to their community, which includes Burundi refugees and other needy families through several endeavors including a school backpack giveaway and a food pantry. First Church was started in the early 1940s following a three-week evangelistic crusade. During these meetings a young, 17-year-old man named Verl Sterns Jr. was led to faith in Christ and called to ministry. He would later serve as an Open Bible minister and missionary. It was a joy for the congregation to have Verl, now age 95, and his wife, Shirley, drive from Arkansas to attend the special celebration. President Randall A. Bach and his wife, Barbara, Regional Executive Director Bruce Pfadenhauer, and former pastor and mentor, Chuck Stevens, and his wife, Sharon.
