The congregation of First Church of the Open Bible in Clear Lake, Iowa, held the Grand Opening of their new building August 28, 2016. Around 300 guests attended the special event, including special guests Open Bible President Randall A. Bach and his wife, Barbara; Central Region Director Bruce Pfadenhauer and his wife, Robin; two missionary families sent out from the church, the Adam and Katie Henaman family and the Travis and Heather Hunsaker family; former pastor, John Van Den Berg; former Central Region director, Ken Groen, and his wife, Nadine; and many others who came from all over to rejoice with the congregation. It was the largest attended service in the past 27 years.

First Church’s congregation, pastored by Will and Joyce Hunsaker, had outgrown their former facility, so they purchased a former body shop July 23, 2015. After gutting the building, the church began to remodel it as a church.

Will explained, “We have been at this point several times over the past 27 years and never made the jump. We would grow some and then fall back. We realized that if we were to make room for greater harvest, we needed to get a bigger building.”

The new building is handicapped accessible and includes a huge fellowship hall, a larger sanctuary with updated technology and padded chairs, a kitchen right off the fellowship hall, up-to-date bathrooms, and a paved parking lot.

The former facility is now for sale, with the sign “WE OUTGREW IT!” planted on the front lawn. The church’s mission statement painted on the wall of the fellowship area reminds parishioners of their purpose: “Love God, love people, go serve.”
