Against All Odds, Desert Song Celebrates!

When leadership at Desert Song Community Church, an Open Bible church in Redmond, Oregon, learned they would lose their leased building within the next year, they spent the next six months searching for the ideal property. They found very few options. There was one prospect that was very exciting, a property just two blocks away in the heart of downtown Redmond, but the church was told there was a 99 percent chance that it was already taken.

Lead pastor Brad Goeman said, “That is when prayer started. Every morning we walked and prayed around that building, believing that God could take that one percent and make it ours. The months ahead were filled with many of those faith-building moments. When the world says, ‘No, this can’t happen,’ we believe God says, ‘Yes, it can.’ That building became our building, and eight months of work days and many contractors later, God has brought us to our new church home.”

When church members faced challenges they couldn’t meet on their own, God always had an answer. From unexpected contractor costs to unexpected financial blessings, from the high costs of certain aspects of the building project to unexpected donations from city and county, God always provided. Blueprints lost for years suddenly appeared in plain sight in the new building. Someone who didn’t even attend the church donated an old barn, which supplied beautiful woodwork, including the trim throughout the entire building.

On February 5, 2017, the church held its Grand Opening service, where they celebrated and shared “His story” to congregants and other community members. Brad said, “Our vision is to transform the heart of our city through relationship with God and people. He obviously has a great plan for Desert Song in Central Oregon! God is awesome, and He is our Great Provider!”
